  1. Hi Mark. I have a big issue slicing my driver of the tee and fairway woods and sometimes 4 iron off the ground, but never slice any of my shorter irons unless I badly mishit them. Could you please shed some light on why this might happen. Cheers

  2. So the club face remains neutral to your body rotation on the back swing, but on the down swing the body leads ahead of the club.. Wouldn’t that totally close the club face at impact if it remains neutral to your body? Love your videos! Thanks for creating such a great free golf resource!!

  3. You sir, are an exceptional teacher and we applaud you. Many thanks.

  4. Great lesson!!!

Most lessons are full of clichés and tips that everybody else is saying…. This is the first time I have heard this great advice even though it is the most basic move in golf.

  5. time to head to the toy store and get a hoola hoop and finally use my alignment sticks for something useful. 😉

  6. One of my fav vids so far. Very useful!!

  7. Hi mark, great video. I personally have problems on the release/follow through. I mean my grip, has been confirmed to be ok and my take away has correct club face control on the 45 degree line. However I seem to have the face open slightly at impact. I think my hands try to follow to the target line instead of turning with my body. Are you able to help with some tips to help me turn through the ball please? Would actively tucking my left elbow in help me?

Excellent video but the tendency might be to get too flat a swing plane cause people will starting turning around the body rather than picking the club in a more up and down fashion

  9. Nice video. Stops me coming over the top as well as i always tried to keep the face square to the ball. Cheers mate :@)

  10. The only way I hit the ball straight is to feel that rotation in my wrist on the down swing!

  11. What you are talking about at 2:14 is called counter rotation and is how you ensure a dead straight shot, as per the Mike Austin/Mike Dunaway/Dan Shauger method, because what happens during the release is that the right hand releases “under” the left. This occurs because the correct action of the hands is to hinge back and forwards, which causes the club to make a cone shape in front of you, not below you. It’s explained in Dan Shaugers book How to Kill the ball.

  12. Thanks!!!!

  13. Great Lesson.

  14. If your local pro is also your english teacher, I’d go with Mark.

  15. The thing i dont understand is that the pro at my local golf club is saying that i should ratate my wrist kepp my shot straighter. so the thing i want to know is which one is wright ?

  16. Well I need to get a hoop now.

  17. this was all fixed for me by changing to a neutral grip, it’s the only way i can take the club back and feel as though the back of my left hand is a mirror of the club face and i know exactly what it’s doing through the swing……..if i go weak or strong it doesn’t work

  18. Great lesson, can’t wait to give this a try on the range tomorrow. I am certainly one who feels like I need to flip over my wrists to achieve a straight shot otherwise I end up with a slice.

  19. fixing my problems this is great thanks mark

The hardest problem that people have with it is the normal swing. People want to overide the open or closed face by either swinging from out to in for a closed face or inside to outside or an open face. That will make the ball fly straight and not draw like you wanted it to. Just have to concentrate on making a normal swing and it will work. I hit a draw with it prety easy and a fade I can do too but its a bit harder for me.

The way that I hit a draw and fade, it may not be 100% right, is to change my grip on the club at setup. You need to change your alignment to reflect the fade or draw. So for a draw aim a little more to the right of the target and you would then point the clubface at your target. For a fade aim your body to the left of the target more and open the clubface to face the target. Then make a normal swing and it should fade or draw.

    Hope this helps.

  22. In a previous video you mention using your wrist as if you were “revving a motorbike” at the top of your back swing, is this a different action that we should be doing as opposed to “rolling your wrist”?

    Hope that made sense!

  23. great video Mark but i was just wondering do you recommend glove for extra control because i some times feel i dont have full control of the club. thanks

  24. Great vid Mark. Certainly an eye opener, the takeaway is certainly made simpler and more effective this way.

  25. awesome stuff Mark, definitely will try and put this into practice as I’ve always struggled with rolling the hands inside on the takeaway. Cheers.
